Q. How does the "Partnered Schools" process work?
A. The Department of Education & Culture invited
private companies through a "Request for Proposal" to design, build and own
facilities to be used for education. The Department of Education and Culture
had identified 31 new schools in the province that needed to be built. Scotia
Learning Centres was one of the private partners that were selected to build 13
of these schools. Following the award of the contract, the province and the
private partner negotiate what is referred to as the "Development Agreement",
which covers the construction phase. A separate "Service Agreement" is
negotiated for the operation of the school.
Q. Are parents in the area involved in the Partnered
Schools process?
A. Yes, parents, teachers, school board members, students
and community members serve on a committee called the "School Steering Team".
Schools serving your community at present were requested to select parents to
represent the concerns of parents, students and community members.
